1. Name
The name of this organization shall be the “Burlington Firefighters Pipes and Drums” est. 2007. (the “Band”)
This name solely represents the Band and does not obligatorily tie the Band to the City of Burlington, the Burlington Fire Department or the Burlington Professional Firefighters’ Association, which the Band wishes to represent.
2. Objective
To oversee, establish, maintain and promote the playing of the Great Highland Bagpipes and Drums within the membership of the Burlington Fire Department primarily to:
Reflect the values of, and to act as an ambassador on behalf of the Burlington Fire Department, the Burlington Professional Firefighters’ Association and the City of Burlington;
- Foster good will toward to the City of Burlington and its citizens, the Burlington Fire Department and the Burlington Professional Firefighters’ Association;
- Provide through music, emotional support and solace to the family and friends of fellow firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
2.2 This organization fulfills this objective by performing as a bagpipe and drum band
3. Membership
3.1 The ongoing objective is to maintain a viable band consisting of a minimum of 10 performing members: at least six (6) pipers and four (4) drummers.
3.1.1 If the minimum requirements set forth above are not maintained, the Executive of the Band reserves the right to dissolve the Band, put out call for interest within the Department or expand recruitment outside the limitations described herein to ensure the operation of a viable band.
3.2 Active Membership
3.2.1 Active Membership may be attained by a current or former member of the Burlington Fire Department by making an oral or written application for membership to any member of the Executive.
